Julie A. Caprio, formerly of the Harkness Dance Theatre, the Kansas City Ballet, and the Washington Ballet Company, has performed, taught, and choreographed throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia.

At the age of 15, Julie was a trainee with Harkness NYC. She learned Cecchetti, Vaganova, and Balanchine techniques while studying with Sulamith Messerer, Robert Blankshine, Lisa Bradley, Maesto Vincenzo Celli, Robert Scevers, Anne Hebard, Luc de Lairesse, and others.

Julie performed in New York City and on the Asian Tour directed by Christopher Aponté. She later joined the Kansas City Ballet under the direction of Todd Bolender.  Julie was then offered a soloist contract with the Washington Ballet Company under the direction of Mary Day and Choo San Goh, performing throughout the United States and Asia.

After leaving her full-time performing career, Julie continued to perform as a guest artist while teaching at private schools and colleges. She eventually opened her own studio, offering ballet and pointe classes. In 1996, Julie was invited to perform in China with eight of her own students and several guest artists.  While maintaining her studio, she subsequently taught for the Governors School of New Jersey, various performing arts schools, and for an international summer intensive in Germany.

Julie’s teaching philosophy is to train and cultivate the individual as a thinking artist, dancer, and performer.
